Consumer/Family Information: Recovery
Recovery is a continuous, individual and personal process that involves consumers attending to chosen areas of need, building on success and moving on to other areas of need. The CCCMHB has developed a vision and guiding principles in support of the Recovery process.
Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board Recovery Vision:
A partnership built on trust and hope supporting choices for the achievement of individual recovery.
Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board Recovery Guiding Principles:
- Recovery is a partnership among the consumer, their community, providers, and the system of care to promote dignity and respect and excellent care, at all levels.
- The consumer defines his/her community, including his/her family of choice.
- Recovery is a process unique to each individual.
- Spirituality can be an important component of an individuals recovery process.
- Citizens with mental health needs are the driving force and reason for the system.
- Consumer leadership and advocacy are essential and must be supported.
- The mental health system shall continually strive to inspire hope and encourage the right to dream.
- The mental health system shall continually strive to seek the elimination of stigma.
- The mental health system shall be proactive in creating barrier-free, flexible service delivery.
- Resources should be prioritized consistent with evidence-based best practices.
- System-wide education and training regarding recovery and evidence-based best practices shall be provided and required.
- The recognition that the community in which the consumers live stretches beyond the Mental Health system means that promotion of Recovery principles must be extended to include the larger community.
